Academy of Europe - Prof. Susanne Fengler appointed to Academia Europaea

07.11.2025

Prof. Susanne Fengler, TU professor of international journalism, has been accepted into the prestigious Academia Europaea (Academy of Europe). This pan-European, non-governmental association of scientists and academics has set itself the mission of promoting learning, education, and research. Its approximately 6,000 members include 88 Nobel Prize winners.

The Academy only grants membership by invitation, and new members are selected only after a peer review process. Prof. Fengler is the fourth TU member to be admitted to the Academy of Europe. The association acts as a European academy of sciences. It promotes excellent scientific work in all academic fields and is committed to further developing scientific education for the benefit of the public. As part of the European Commission's scientific advisory system, the Academy also supports political decision-making in Europe.

Susanne Fengler has been Professor of International Journalism at the Institute of Journalism at TU Dortmund University since 2008 and heads the Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism. She and her team conduct research on media freedom, foreign reporting, and disinformation—both in Europe and in the Global South. Numerous EU projects, several scientific awards, and two graduate colleges are just some of the milestones in the scientific career of the Dortmund native.

During this year's Academia Europaea conference in Barcelona, Prof. Susanne Fengler (center) was welcomed into the circle of colleagues by President Prof. Donald Dingwell and Vice President Prof. Eva Kondorosi.
